Our sincere apologies to those who showed up on May 3rd.

We now know that we should have made an announcement. Please forgive us, this is our first event cache. With her permission, we have rescheduled the event for May 17th, half an hour after Millasmommies12's Spring 2025 CITO (GCB6F27). That event is only about 15 minutes away from ours.

Now you can CITO and reward yourself for your hard work with ice cream!

THE EVENT WILL OCCUR RAIN OR SHINE!

As coolhipwithit stated in her log, "we won't melt".

Ice cream and toppings will be provided!

Picnic tables are present, but please bring extra chairs.

Let's share stories about our first cache placements and/or first geocaches found!

Geocaching BINGO, with prizes, is planned!

Please RSVP for the new date with the number of people attending so we can purchase enough ice cream!

Thank you!

On May 3, 2000, Dave Ulmer placed the first geocache in Beavercreek, Oregon. This "Original Stash" has a significant place in geocaching history. It was comprised of a black plastic bucket containing various items, including:
* Delorme Topo USA mapping software
* CD-ROMs
* A cassette recorder
* A George of the Jungle VHS tape
* A book
* $4 in cash
* A slingshot
* And famously, a can of beans.

The cache coordinates (N45° 17.460 W122° 24.800) were posted on the Usenet newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav. Within a few days, the cache was found, with Mike Teague among the first to log a find. The "Original Can of Beans" has become a symbolic artifact of geocaching's history. Dave Ulmer's act sparked a global phenomenon, turning GPS technology into a recreational adventure.

Join us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of geocaching at an ice cream social at Pavilion 2 near the Duckpond at Springbrook Park in Alcoa! The street address is 636 Voss Road (Alcoa Duck Pond). At least 10 geocaches are near the park for your hunting pleasure, including my new cache, TN Treefrog (GCB3RWG).
