Thanks to Norelkfiend for the original concept of this event several years ago and her continued contributions to its enduring success.

It’s time once again for East Tennessee’s International Geocaching Day Fishing Tournament, Reverse Wherigo, Geolympics, and potluck lunch. Join us at Alcoa’s Springbrook Park Pavilion (1537 Dalton St, Alcoa, TN 37701) for a fun time “fishing” for the big one or maybe just hanging out with the anglers. There will be “fabulous” prizes! FABULOUS I tell ya! Come prepared to catch your limit! AND EARN THE INTERNATIONAL GEOCACHING DAY SOUVENIR FOR YOUR PROFILE!
NOTE: No actual fishing is involved; just a twist on the traditional "poker run" concept.

- 08:00-10:00 am – Registration; ALL players must register at the event location and obtain a passport for each player or team utilizing a UNIQUE geocaching account. You do not have to be present at 8 am, but registering early will ensure you are ready to roll when the caches publish.
- 09:00 am – Fishing Tournament caches publish.
- 09:00 am – 11:30 am – Fishing for caches
- 10:00 am – 2:00 pm – Geolympics games.
- 11:30 am – Weigh-in deadline; returning after 11:30 am will result in the loss of one fish for every 5 minutes, or portion thereof, late.
- ~12:00 pm – 1:00 pm- Potluck lunch and fish tales.
- ~01:00 pm – Reverse Wherigo publishes. Return to event location with a successful found log ASAP. Groups permitted but only one medallion per group will be awarded.
- ~02:15 pm – Awards presented and prize drawings.
Fishing Tournament:
Approximately 15 new official geocaches will publish at 9 AM. Every participant/team must have a UNIQUE geocaching account and must enter the tournament at the registration table by 10:00 AM to receive a passport (Registration begins at 8 AM and registering early will ensure the best opportunity to attain fish from all caches.) You will have 2 1/2 hours to visit as many of those caches as possible. At each location, log the cache and stamp your passport as proof of being at the location. Return to the event site no later than 11:30 am. Returning after 11:30 am will result in the loss of one fish for every 5 minutes, or portion thereof, late. The volunteers working the weigh-in will validate your passport and allow you to land as many fish as stamps you collected. Your largest five fish will count toward your total. Trackable medallions will be awarded to the three greatest weight totals. Ties will be broken by the next largest fish of the tied anglers.
Lunch:
A potluck lunch will begin at approximately noon. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Please reference in your “will attend” log if you are participating in the luncheon and what you will be contributing. Please note the number of anticipated attendees and other contributions when considering your own contribution. The item list and attendee count will be updated as often as possible.
Reverse Wherigo:
A new reverse Wherigo Cache will publish at approximately 1 PM. Return to the event location with a successful found log ASAP. Groups permitted but only one medallion per group will be awarded. The final location will be far enough to require skill, but close enough to facilitate a quick adventure. Ol’Fogie and others will gladly assist players needing help with wherigo play, but it is best if you have a player installed on your device and practice utilizing one of the many "play anywhere" cartridges available at wherigo.com.
Olympiad:
Various contests will be held with specific games to be determined, but may include these as well as others:
- Ammo Can Toss
- Film Pod Toss
- Locked container challenge
- GPSr (in)accuracy test
Raffle:
There will be a drawing for prizes in addition to tournament, Olympiad & reverse wherigo medals.
Awards and Prizes:
Trackable medallions will be presented to the top three finishers in the fishing tournament, Olympiad, and reverse whereigo race. Door prize drawings for trackable items, cool geocaching swag (geocoins, travel bugs, containers, TOTTS, etc), and premium prizes will be conducted for everyone who attends and is present at the end of the event.
It is August and HOT; bring plenty of water, bug spray, sunscreen, and hats. We all need to stay safe. This will be under a covered pavilion, so the event will take place rain or shine. Feel free to hang out and cheer for your favorite angler if you would rather not go fishing. You may get recruited to help, though.
Now, let’s talk about the grub!
There will be a potluck grill-out. Ol’Fogie will provide and grill burgers and dogs for all attendees! If you are planning to hang out and eat, please bring something for the crowd. Needed items include:

Travel Bug Etiquette: Cachers pay good money for Travel Bugs and Geocoins. If you take a TB or GC from a cache will you PLEASE ensure it is correctly logged in and out. If you take one that still shows it is somewhere else, please be patient before "grabbing" the item; it does not get its mileage by being grabbed before the last person to drop it has had time to log their placement. This is particularly important on busy and new caches. If you have an issue with a bug or coin, please e-mail or message the owner through their profile and advise them of the issue; they will be pleased to hear from you.
